i want to skip my birth control pill stop week, and my question is when do i start my next stop week after skipping my current one?

Skipping a period: Let's assume all 21 (3 weeks) active pills are the same Combination Birth Control Pills, and she has been using BC pills for a while. The inactive row doesn't need to be taken and some packets don't have inactive pills, but the woman still would take 1 week off after 21 active pills. Alternatively, she can choose to take 4, 5, or 6 weeks of active pills... then 1 week off... then start a new pack.

Taking Extra BCP: Yes. It is better to take an extra one than to miss one.

Variation: It is normal to have some variation in the menstrual cycle. A two day variation does not seem to be a cause for concern. Menstrual color reflects how long it has been in the vagina as blood undergoes oxidation. It is not typically useful to monitor menstrual blood color. Consider monitoring your cycles for the next few months. If not satisfied you can change birth control methods

Yes, protected: Yes, the important pills are the active pills not the placebo pills.  The placebo pills are just there to keep you in the habit of taking a pill every day and to allow you to menstruate.  In fact, some types of BCPs are now packaged so that active pills are taken for about three months and then you take the placebo pills.

Yes : The "period" pills are placebos - designed to keep you in the habit of daily pill ingestion.

Yes: Birth control pills are made to cause bleeding when the medication is stopped.  That is why they package them with placebo pills (the different colored pills at the end of the pack).  When missing active pills it is the same as taking placebo pills and therefore will cause you to have a period.

Accepted Answer

Yes: When you skip your pills you will get irregular bleeding. You will lose  contraceptive protection depending on the number of pills you miss. If you miss more than 1 pill in a pack, it is best to use a back up method.

i was wondering if i skipped my birth control pills for two days can i start a new pack of pills and it continue to work? i was also wondering if it's normal for females to get nauseous and feel like vomiting after intercourse.

Accepted Answer

Yes and yes: If you do skip pills then start a new pack - you should use an alternate form of contraception for two weeks, then you would be protected again.  It is not abnormal to have those symptoms after having sex.

i accidently took my saturday and sunday birth control pill yesterday. now that it's sunday do i skip a pill or take mondays?

Take monday's: You will end up running out of pills a day early with this pill pack, and thus - you will probably get your period a day earlier than you normally would, but - it is better than missing a day.  (the 'extra' dose you got yesterday won't 'carry over' to tomorrow).

what to do if i mistook my birth control pill? i dropped the one i needed to take and took the following days pill. should i skip a day?

Accepted Answer

No: Either take 2 pills the next day to make up for the one you missed, but since your really didn't miss a pill, just continue to take one a day. You will finish your cycle one day early. Then wait one day and start a new package.
