Throat Pain: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.  Gargle several times a day.

There is no....: ..."random" throat pain.  Throats hurt for a reason.  There can be an infection.  There can be irritation.  Something could be dripping from above (the sinuses) or washing up from below (stomach acid).  It might not be from the throat, but from the neck (muscular).  It might be emotional.  But it's not "random."  if you are having intermittent throat pain, see your doctor.
