Usually a gallstone: Usually a gallstone causing obstruction of the common bile duct can cause sudden painful jaundice, sometimes with associated cholangitis (infection of the bile) This requires drainage and extraction of the stone from the common bile duct with a procedure call ERCP.
Other causes can be tumors causing obstruction, which is more often painless and gradual.

Do not know: lncreased levels of serum bilirubin are known to limit the conduction of electrical impulse by the SA nodes of heart which in turn results in bradycardia (i.e. heart rate of up to 50 beats per minute). Exact mechanism by which jaundice leads to development of bradycardia is stilI not 
known even after hundred years of publication.

Normal: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, what you provided is well within normal limits. 
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Liver functions: Both are possible. Need to also exclude alcohol abuse. If you do not drink excessive alcohol the check with your physician (for liver scan, CT etc.)

: Jaundice is just the visible effect of an abundance of that material in the tissues. It should gradually clear over time with no long term effect on the liver or other tissues where it stored transiently.

?Gilbert Syndrome?: It is possible that he has the common hereditary cause of increased bilirubin, gilbert's syndrome, and is found in up to 5% of the population. The build-up of bilirubin can cause mild jaundice, but usually nothing else. Usually the liver can breakdown bilirubin quickly and u pee it out, but in this case it can't do it fast, thus a build up. But the level is usually harmless. Consult doc. Good luck.
