Not very likely.: We used to worry about fungus being spread in locker rooms, showers, etc. Now the thinking is that  these fungi are pretty much everywhere, and it is the environment of the shoe (dark & damp) which allows them to get established on the feet, especially between the toes. Washing your feet daily with soap and water and wearing clean dry cotton socks  are strong preventative measures.

Onychomycosis describes fungal infection of the nails.
