Talk to your doctor: Many medications can help with petit mal seizures. If associated with the grand mal seizures, Ethosuximide (zarontin) can be very effective.  Valproic acid (depakene) and Lamotrigine (lamictal) are effective with or without associated grand mal seizures.  Other medications can also be used. In your case, i would speak with your doctor to see if a change in medication is appropriate.

Jeff24, U need help: I see that you posted many questions all related to your "seizure" which you may have had 14 yrs ago. Despite multiple answers from different docs, you are not satisfied and seem to obsess about this issue quite abit. Topamax (topiramate) is actually used to treat both seizure and migraine. Jeff24, call your doc and make an appointment for follow-up. I think you have obscessive-compulsive-disorder. Good luck.

Yes, : Yes, i suggest discussing these symptoms with your doctor who prescribed the dilantin. There are other medication options if the Dilantin is causing those symptoms.

mom has petit & grand mal seizures from tbi (car accident in 89). dilantin, depakote & tegretol worked but w/severe side effects. neurontin worked best. recently she was dx w/pnes. is it possible this was a misdiagnosis? or was 1st dx wrong?

Need much more info: Your question is complex. It's possible that PNES is an additional diagnosis though NEURONTIN does not have a reputation for being a very robust drug used in treating significant epileptic conditions. See a doctor now: A headache only on the left side could be something as simple as stress or muscle tension.  It could also be serious and require treatment.  You should be checked by a doctor for temporal arteritis and other vascular problems.
