Unlikely to happen: Unlike women who are born with all the eggs they ever have & slowly lose them over time, the male system is designed to generate sperm well past six decades. Women release an egg with her lifetime exposures to chemicals, radiation & the like, the sperm not so. Any lesser quality sperm don't swim as well so the prime effect of age falls mostly on the woman.

A few days...: ....Providing s/he is drinking well, staying well hydrated and making urine.   Sick kids often don't feel like eating, but they make up for it when they feel better.

are parents allowed to hide a diagnosis of cancer from a sick child ?

Accepted Answer

Notification: Parents are generally "allowed" to do whatever they feel is in the best interest of their child. This only changes when they do something that is overtly harmful to their child. Assuming the cancer is treatable (as many childhood cancers are), i'm not sure why a parent wouldn't tell the child about their illness. That would certainly make it easier to understand why they're undergoing treatment.

should i give my sick child a bath especially if she's running a fever?

Bathe as needed: I would be sure to use warm, not hot or cold water in the process. Cold water can trigger shivering & end up pushing the fever higher. If the kid is soiled or stinky, a good cleaning is therapeutic for everybody involved.

is it dangerous for a sick child to go longer than a day without urinating?

Dr. or ER can check: Everybody should pee at least once a day. If a school-aged child hasn't urinated in 24 hours, her doctor or the ER can evaluate. Usually, the problem is a lack of fluids, and the solution is fluid replenishment either orally or by IV. Typically, a few hours of IV fluids solves the pee problem. Of course, some kids are much sicker and end up hospitalized. But first, a medical exam should be done.

do you give a sick child tylenol (acetaminophen) before taking her to the doctor?

Accepted Answer

Yes: I view acetomenophen as a comfort med & moms are free to use it as they want to see if a fussy, sickly or febrile baby can feel better as a result, it does not interfere with my evaluation if you should choose to bring the kid in for an exam. Sometimes if you call the office, the nursing staff can help you decide what things you can do for baby on your own & when to come in.

Mgt: The culture will be finalized, and then the need for antibiotics better determined. Do you have a sore throat, thick nasal drainage or fever?
In the meantime, nasal saline rinses may be used. If there is prolonged cough, a follow up is advised.

my daughter has a fever and high heart rate. she is 5 years old. hr over 150, with a peak of 170, resting. temp 102.1. other symptoms include stuffy/runny nose, mild body aches, slight cough, sore throat. is this a normal response for a sick child?

: The cited rates are common in sick kids at that age &amp; well tolerated by their system.

Honey: If a child is over the age of one, honey may be used for coughs. I recommend buckwheat honey for its taste and texture. It is not carried in all stores. The soothing effect of the honey is useful at bedtime. In older children, i will add some lemon onto the tablespoon. This helps to break up the mucous. This was a good question since the over the counter medication for children is very limited.

how is that there are at least 3 different forms of epilespy in my family? diangosis grandmal as teenager... never outgrown. diangosis hereditary but sick as child.

This is a puzzle: Very interesting story. I would have to say that it is likely that there is some kind of link through your family for epilepsy/seizure disorder, regardless of type. It is not impossible for a person in a family with such a link to see different types of seizure disorder in other family members.
