how long should i wait to go back to work after a shoulder reconstruction?

It depends: "shoulder reconstruction" can mean repair of a fracture, surgery for instability, or shoulder replacement.  Work may involve desk duty and shuffling papers or digging ditches and carrying cinder blocks.  If you have had a minor procedure and have a light duty postion, you should be able to return to work within 2-4 weeks.  If you have had major surgery and have a heavy duty job it can take months.

i have had a right shoulder reconstruction 2 years ago due to instability, i continue to get bursitis, is removal of the bursa an option?

Yes: An arthroscopic bursectomy is a reasonably successful and safe procedure, but for it to work in the long term, the underlying cause of your recurrent bursitis must also be addressed.

is a formal physical therapy program necessary after total shoulder arthroplasty for osteoarthritis?

Yes.: Physical therapy is necessary to restore range of motion, strength and function to your shoulder. It is also important in minimizing the risk of developing a frozen shoulder post-operatively.

six months post-op from reverse right shoulder arthroplasty. woke with intense, sharp pain upon moving the arm. with forearm on my lap i am okay. walk-in clinic xrayed, not dislocated. surgeon away 2 weeks. any ideas? will immobilize, ice for now?

: Dislocation would be high on the list of possible causes of your pain on motion, but the xray was ok. However if rest,icing,taking nsaids like ibuprofen or naproxen don't provide gradual relief of symptoms I recommend having a teammate of your vacationing orthopedic surgeon see you promptly. The squeaky wheel gets the oil in medicine as in other aspects of life.

i've been dealing with all of of bodily issues. my back, neck and shoulder, all have began hurting and they all have to do with my the left side of my body due to my knee reconstruction that i had 8 years ago. i need advice from a knowledgeable dr !!

Be seen: Any complaints of shortness of breath postoperatively is something taken very seriously in general.  I would call Your surgeon and make sure he is aware and then follow his recommendations.  Likely he will recommend you come in to be seen.

why might it be that my shoulder pops?

Depends: Shoulders can pop and click and make noise like any other joint.  Depends on the location and activity that makes it pop.  Rule of thumb is if it doesn't hurt and just makes noise its probably gonna be ok and could be just joint fluid shifting like when crack a knuckle.  If you have pain or apprehension with the pop it could indicate a tear.  In older patients it could mean arthritis.

why might it be that my shoulder keeps dislocating?

Labral tear: If this started as a traumatic injury, then most likely you have a labral tear.  The labrum is an important stabilizer of the shoulder joint and if torn or stretched will not provide much support to prevent dislocation.  There are other non-traumatic causes as well that are far less common.  See your local ortho doc for both surgical and non-surgical options.

Many possibilities: Bilateral shoulder pain can be from many sources: tendonitis, instability, rheumatoid arthritis, frozen shoulder, referred pain from the cervical spine, etc. Less likely, it could be from a nonorthopedic condtion. If the pain is significant, then it's time to your see doc and move forward with some diagnostic and treatment options.
