should i use plan b? i was on a 3 day course of bactrim and had sex and the condom broke. i am on ortho tri cyclen lo for 7 years.  i am concerned that the bactrim may have effected my bc pill. should i take  plan b?

Plan B: If the condom was unreliable and broke, would take plan B as precaution, especially with Bactrim use during the time frame.

Use if only for : Episodes of failed primary form of contraception or unprotected sex. Don't practice unprotected sex if not desiring to become pregnant. Don"t use Plan B as a regular form of contraception.

Maybe not: If you are certain that with the "protected" part everything was fine, the plan B will only mess with your cycle. If you know when you are supposed to come on your period, count 14 days back - that is when you would have ovulated. If you did ovulate around the encounter you are referring to, then take plan B.

Contraception method: If you have missed only 1 pill anywhere in the pack or started a new pack 1 day late, you are still protected against pregnancy.
It would be better to take the last pill you missed now, even if this means taking it 10 hrs late and carry on taking the rest of the pack as normal.

Yes: Do not expect Plan B that was taken a week ago to cover you for your most rest sexual activity. You need to find a regular form of birth control because Plan B is designed to be an emergency contraceptive.

It is called PLAN B.: Plan B in not a good form of birth control. It is to be used after unplanned unprotected sex. It is NOT as effective as the pill. Depending on how soon you take it after sex effective rate is between 89 to 95%. That means even if you use it right away it may not prevent pregnancy 1 out of 20 times. You should consider using some other more reliable method.

It only takes one: The erect penis is secreting sperm containing fluid continuously. The main ejaculate is substantially more at one time but it only takes one to get you pregnant. The risk is lower, but present any time you have unprotected intercourse.

Indications: Plan b or Plan B one step is recommended if you missed at least two or three active birth control pills (consecutively) or if you were using the pull out method (and he did not pull out in a timely manner).

The sooner the : better after intercourse.  Plan B One-Step is up to 89 % effective when taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex. It can reduce chance of pregnancy by up to 95% if used within 24 hours. It continues to reduce the risk of pregnancy up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex, but is less effective as time passes.

Protected: The pill you took passed through your stomach and was totally absorbed in the small intestines within hours. The only material you would have vomited is unrelated intake in the previous few hours. I would not risk the common side effects of the  Plan B when I see no risk of the incident effecting your BC pill.
