Minimal if any: In deference to chickenpox, you do not have virus in your oral secretions or cough during shingles.The debris from weepy sores in the breakout area has virus that could spread chickenpox. If you keep the area covered and or the area has dried out, there is little if any chance you will spread it to others.

Go see a doctor: You need to have this cultured to rule out fungus/bacteria.

Try soaking in black tea for 10 minutes. Make a strong batch of tea and let cool, then soak. The tannic acid can help. Go get this checked out because 5 months -  too long for tinea.  Make sure you wear DRY shoes and socks.

These days it can be prevented by a vaccine.

Neuron tin is slowly increased over time up to 2400 mg per day. An alternative for shingle pain is Alpha lipoid acid which is supposed to help the nerve pain.
