ive had hiccups for over 12 hours with two hour-long breaks. its starting to hurt when i eat and drink now. theres a sharp stabbing pain in my throat and chest. is it normal?

: In addition to the spasms of the diaphragm causing hiccups, it appears that the esophagus is irritated or sore from hiccupping. Perhaps your physician would be willing to prescribe medication for your hiccups. If they persist for over a day ,proceed to the ER for prompt care.

Doctor can evaluate: Chest pain is often a sign to go to an E.R. if one's doctor is not readily available. Chest pain symptoms can be a heart attack. One should not drive herself (safer to go by ambulance). If she turns out not to have heart attack symptoms, the E.R. will also have evaluated for problems such as a collapsed lung, a pneumonia, or stomach reflux. A chest x-ray, EKG, and labs can be done quickly there.

See GI doctor: You may have esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus) due to acid reflux. There's a small possibility you have a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis if you've had recurrent episodes of food getting stuck, especially soft solids (like rice, pasta, breads, etc). Best way to diagnose this is with an upper endoscopy.

Chest&Throat Pain: It could be foreign bodies like fish bones, erosions, several types of espohagitis and/or reflux. There are numerous possibilities. See your doctor or ask for a referral to n ENT or GI specialist.

?2 entities: There is no anatomic connection to those 3 areas of the body. It is possible that you're having symptoms of neuralgia(mild inflammation/irritability) of a superficial scalp nerve; and pinched nerve in the rib cage or esophageal spasm. For neuralgia,try TYLENOL (acetaminophen). I feel that these symptoms will resolve without any specific treatment but see your Physician if they persist.

: It is possible.  However, you didn’t describe how often this occurs.  If this is a persistent problem, then I think it might be gastritis.  To be safe, discuss issue with PCP/ Gastroenterologist.

i started having weird throat pain and chest pain and was  burping a lot. the burping relieves the pain for a millisecond. it is a sharp pain.

Spasm: Esophageal spasm can be quite sudden and painful and this may be what you're experiencing. Sometimes swallowing water May relieve the spasm.  If you force yourself to burp, you are actually swallowing more air. If symptoms persist get examined by a physician for diagnosis and treatment.
