sharp chest pain in center, between breasts and center above breasts. lasts probably 1-3 seconds. woke up and felt this a couple times today. cant pay for doctor. self care advice? should i be worried?

: New chest pain is always worrisome and warrants a visit to a doctor. That said, if it’s not a heart attack, sharp mid-chest pain like you described is most often due to esophageal reflux. That is, acid splashing up into the esophagus from your stomach. Typically worse when lying flat on your back. Avoid alcohol, spicy foods, consider taking Zantac or similar. See a doctor if it continues.

Prob. not a worry: Most sharp pains in the chest, unless there has been trauma to the muscles or rib cage, ate due to stomach or upper intestinal gas pockets and are not serious. However, if this continues, please see your health advisor.

: A sharp, especially sudden&amp; fleeting chest pain is rarely caused by cardiac or lung problems but is more apt to be of musculoskeletal origin or caused by a pinched intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs or by inflammation/ irritation of a joint between a rib and the breastbone.  A deep breath often precipitates these sharp chest pains. See your MD for evaluation as needed.

Chest wall muscles: Bones or cartilages may cause such symptoms, unlikely related to your heart or lungs. Occasional shortness of breath can be due to many causes, so long it subsides, not affecting your daily activities or sleep, no need to worry, however if really concerning, you want to see your doctor for evaluation, good luck

Chest pain: Do you have HTN, Diabetes, high cholesterol? Do you smoke or live with someone who smokes? Lifestyle - sedentary, obesity? Menopausal? History of symptoms and Physical exam.  All this weigh in your diagnosis of cardiac vs non cardiac CP.

Question?: Not sure what your question is.  If you're prone to bouts of rapid heart beat, a 24 hour recording (or 30 day, if needed) can help your doctor determine what type of rhythm disturbance you have which is essential to choosing the right course of treatment.

No: Keep laughing, it is good for you! if pain is associated with deep breathing or movement, then the cause is typically muscular/skeletal.
