can celibacy lead to any long term problems for a male? i'm 22 and just have vey little interest in sex with either gender. is it use it or lose it?

Accepted Answer

No atrophy: Use of the penis is not "use it or lose it".  There are no long term health risks to not having sex or ejaculating.  Erection is a time of increased blood flow to the penis and this can be healthy, but not mandatory.  If your interest in sex "libido" is very low or you are concerned, there might be other things to look into - testosterone level, hormone balances, etc.  I would check with my gp.

what's the difference between comprehensive and abstinence-only sex education?

Explanation vs none: Comprehensive sex education includes anatomy and physiology of sex. Also all  about birth control for both sexes, risks of unprotected sex i.E pregnancy and stds & all about a pregnancy plus pre & post natal care as well as needs and responsibilities of having a child. Abstinence only sex education just tells you "no sex before marriage" & sex before marriage is sinful, wrong & possibly dangerous.

Yes: Over 5 days you can see diminished motility but it may not be significant.

Usually safe, but...: Nothing in life is 100% safe. Safety is relative, so one has to compare "situation A" with "situation B". One of the situations is the "no sex or masturbation" situation. That means looking seriously at the 2 situations, and posting another question.

Hard to say: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Cycle: Typical menstrual cycle lasts 28 days. The follicular phase lasts the first 14 days and there is a LH and FSH surge resulting in 
ovulation and the begining of the luteal phase.  It is the days just after this that you are most likely to conceive. I am not aware of medical literature to support that factors such as vigorous activity interfere with implantation.

does inserting progesterone tablets vaginally right after frozen embryo transfer not harm the embryo. since been told sex abstinence too ?

Does not harm: Use the medication exactly as directed by your fertility specialist. Vaginal Progesterone is often given after IVF. If the directions are unclear contact your specialist and ask for clarification.

had been abstinent for 5 years. recently started having intercourse again and my vagina is sore. is this normal after a long period of abstinence. sex isn't painful the whole time but is a bit sensitive at the begging?

: It is likely that you are overdoing it. After that long of a period of time, it would be advisable to try to ease into sexual activity again. If you have persistent pain or problems, see your gynecologist. Good luck.
