how does the sensipar medication work in curing parathyroid disorders?

Negative feedback: Sensipar (aka cinacalcet) helps the parathyroid gland respond better to calcium in the blood stream.  The presence of calcium typically slows down the parathyroid gland as the gland wants to increase calcium levels in the blood.  The gland will produce PTH (parathyroid hormone) to help increase calcium levels.  With the drug, the gland isn't as active and PTH levels are lower.

Yes: There is a whole page of dietary recommendations at: http://www.Nlm.Nih.Gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002442.Htm    it explains about carbs, fats, proteins, calcium, phosphorus, and fluids, in the diets of chronic kidney disease patients. The primary care doctor or nephrologist can refer to a specialized dietician to help create the proper diet.

It is used to treat hyperparathyroidism for long-term dialysis for kidney disease. It is also employed to treat hypercalcemia in patients  with cancer of the parathyroid gland, and those with overactive parathyroid glands not be treated surgically. Initial dose: 30 mg increases .op to 180mg

Many types...: Bronchodilators such as albuterol (Ventolin) or levalbuterol (Xopenex) enlarge the diameter of the airways to help air flow and mucus come out of the lungs. Patients with cough-variant asthma, exercise-induced asthma, or regular asthma also use steroid inhalers (such as Flovent) to reduce swelling, mucus, and "sensitivity" in the airways. Singulair is an another medication that can be used.

Approaching: depression wi multiple modalities is best. There are many
things you can do for depression.  Don't isolate. Spend time w people. Use your support system. Get out. Don’t stagnate at home. Work to get 8 hours or &gt; of sleep per night &amp; eat healthfully. Daily aerobic physical activity is a big +.  Recommend the “Feeling Good Book" by Dr. David Burns. Don't just read it - DO IT!

Several: Now that we have studies showing that long-term benefits for interferons and Copaxone are likely minimal at best, and that 60% of pts do not do well by 2 yrs, we are starting to see the emergence of far more potent meds.  Gilenya and tysabri (natalizumab) are here.  Tecfedera is close, lemtrada by end of year.  Daclizumab, ocrelizumab, the newer s-1-p drugs being looked at.  Even new drug for spasticity.
