"floaters" are spots: …in our vision that may look like black/grey specks/ strings/ cob webs that drift about when we move our eyes. As eyes age, micro- scopic fibers in the jelly-like vitreous clump together & cast shadows on retina. Most are benign unless large #s appear as well as flashes of light or loss of peripheral vision, in which cases you should see ophthalmologist immediately. [adapted from mayo clinic site].

Get evaluated: Cataract surgery involves the optics of the eye.  The retina is the part of the eye attacked in uncontrolled diabetes, with vascular dilation, edema and bleeding.  If you see black clouds you might have hemorrhage, or even a detachment of the retina.  You should see your ophthalmologist right away (not an optometrist).
