T/Gel or T/Sal: For otc shampoos, neutrogena t/gel, t/sal, tar shampoos, head & shoulder, selsun blue/brown/gold are better than others. But prescription shampoos ordered by derm surely are more powerful. Adding strong cortisone scalp liquid/solution is necessary, sometimes, particularly for sever scalp psoriasis.

can mood stabilizers cause scaling on the scalp?i have been on lamotrigine 50mg twice a day for a while now and my scalp has started to itch like crazy to the point where i feel like pulling my hair out.i have had dandruff before but never like this?

: Lamotrigine can cause an itchy rash which could lead to a life-threatening Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.  It is likely safest to immediately contact your doctor.  Seems also best to find a different medication ASAP, as based on your post, the lamotrigine should be stopped.

Itchy scalp: Try a dandruff shampoo in the shower every night. Use a Hydrocortisone liquid solution after the shampoo  if you still itch. If there is no relief, see a dermatologist. Otc shampoos include head & shoulders, selson, dhs, nizoral, (ketoconazole) tsal, tgel, etc. The generics should also work.

Itchy Scalp: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that mainly affects your scalp. It causes scaly patches, red skin and stubborn dandruff. Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect oily areas of the body, such as the face, upper chest and back. Treatment is with T-gel shampoo and prescription strength cortisone.
