Delayed flea bites: You can have what is called an id reaction.  Your body can develop a reaction to the bites even after they are gone.  They are often as itchy and annoying as the original bites.  Using something to control the itch can be helpful and having patience for them to go away.

Scabies: Insect bits that are in a linear pattern can be scabies.  These are microscopic mites that burrow under the skin and cause intense itching, sometimes all over the body.  It is acquired from either another person or infested sand/soil.  You need to see a doctor for the proper treatment, permethrin cream, and to wash all fomites in hot water or dry in a hot drier to kill the mites.

Angioneurotic edema: Swelling of the eyes and mouth is usually caused by an allergy to something taken internally. You should consult her doctor to try to figure out what she is allergic to. It is often difficult to know for sure what causes it. If she has noisy breathing or struggles when taking a breath, she should be taken to the ER.

Duac Side Effects: Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
severe redness, burning, stinging, or peeling of treated skin areas; or
diarrhea that is watery or bloody
less serious side effects may include:
mild burning or stinging
itching or tingly feeling
dryness or peeling of treated skin; or
redness or other irritation
most rashes last 10-14 days with rx.

Up to you: If you are allergic to the bites, then they will itch for weeks.  If you scratch them, they will itch until you quit scratching them.  They can cause hard bumps called nodules if you continue to rub or scratch.  Also, are the fleas still around?  Other bites can look like flea bites and last a long time, such as scabies and other mites.  Hydrocortisone cream and oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will help the itch.

Yes.: Sand fleas, as well as other biting insects, can trigger a delayed reaction at the bite site by a similar mechanism that causes the well known hypersensitivity reaction of poison ivy or poison oak rash, often as late as 2-3 days later. And similarly, an anti-inflammatory cream such as Hydrocortisone may blunt the reaction thus making it more tolerable and less itchy.

Delayed reaction: Some people have delayed hypersensitivity reactions to the bite. Most of us are familiar with an immediate reaction - for instance a mosquito bites you and you immediately get a red, itchy bump. A similar reaction can be through a different pathway in your body, that can take days to activate and develop a reaction - it's called delayed hypersensitivity reaction, and likely what you are noting.

: I'm told that sand fleas are edible but they raise havoc with your skin. . They may not survive hot coffee. Call the poison center who may have more information for you.

Accepted Answer

Diphenhydramine: The old fashioned remedy is calamine lotion. Diphenyhdramine (benadryl) is an OTC antihistamine that can help, but it may make you sleepy. Topical hydrocortisone (also OTC) may help localized areas. If itching is severe and all over, in severe cases your doctor may consider a brief course of an oral steroid (corticosteroid such as prednisone or medrol).
