salicylic acid vs tretinoin/retin a, which is better?

Retin a (tretinoin) if moderate: If you have very mild acne then salicylic acid may be adequate.  For more moderate or any cystic component of acne, retina a is "stronger" and will be more likely to help acne resolve completely. Keep in mind retin a (tretinoin) needs to be a "pea" sized amount applied daily, can cause peeling and redness of skin initially.  if redness and irritation are a problem, back off to every other day application.

That would occur: First stop the Retin A
There is really no curtailing the peel at this point possibly a hydrocort cream would give some comfort. Its important to speak to your doctor asap.

Neutragen: There are many out on the market.  I make my own that is mixed with a little glycolic acid too.  However, as far as the market goes, i like neutragena's with the great fruit sense.

Salicylic acid is less irritating than benzoyl peroxide but is likely less effective than benzoyl peroxide against acne.

Staged: You may want to consider alternating. I do not recommend performing simultaneously or mixing the two. You will possibly develop hypersensitive skin or excessively dry skin.

Skin recovery: If irritated from excessive Salicylic Acid, use moisturizing soap such as Dove-sensitive skin, or Aveeno (oatmeal). In addition, apply gentle lotion, such as Vanicream, or Aveeno (oatmeal) to area, on damp skin, about a week.
