Safe from what?: If not married, there's no way to have sex and be safe from morality police. At ages 19 and 20, a couple might be safe from their parents (if not living with parents now). The biological purpose of sex is to create offspring, so naturally, there is no safe "natural" way to avoid getting pregnant. A couple can be safe from STD diseases if neither person has HIV, nor has had sex with another person.

No safety: When having unprotected sex, there is no "safe waiting period" between partners. Whenever you have unprotected sex, you are exposed to every person your partner has ever had, no matter how long ago it was. You need to be evaluated and tested for stds, treated appropriately and then start having safer, protected sex.

Don't know how long: Your menstrual cycle is. However, if you had sexual intercourse the day your period was anticipated - that episode of sex should not have prevented it. Would encourage you to take a home pregnancy test. Severe stress can also delay a period.

Condoms: Hsv is spread from one person to another by touching or intimate contact. Oral sex can also allow the virus to spread. You are most contagious when you have an active blister, but the virus can also be spread even when there isn’t a blister present. The best ways to avoid spreading the virus is to not touch active blisters. Using condoms reduces the risk, but not 100%.

Should be ok: If a person had shingles or chicken pox in the past, she can no longer catch the virus from another person. However, if a person has no good immunity to the zoster virus (never caught chicken pox, is immunosuppressed, never got the vaccine, or got the vaccine but did not make enough antibodies) then she can get a case of chicken pox from the virus in the skin lesions of somebody else's shingles.
