Excessive fluid: infusion can certainly lead to excessive fluid retention. Gravity pulls the fluid down to our legs and feet. As the fluid is reabsorbed, the swelling should resolve but it may take a few days. There are cardiac conditions, metabolic conditions and vascular conditions that can all make this worse. Ask your health care provider about your concerns since she/he knows your health history.

i have a foot in a cast and wrap it with 2 trashbags and tape. can i submerge it? my doctor told me to wrap my foot with doubled trash bags and tape with masking tape. i have been hanging my leg out of the tub and cause a huge mess with the water. is that

Trying : Trying to keep your foot dry by wrapping it in one, two or more trash bags and taping it not only doesn't work well, but it's cumbersome, and more apt to cause an accident.

You have two choices:

you can go out and buy something called a "cast protector, " which is a loose, rubber stocking that has a velcro or other elastic kind of closure near the top to keep it waterproof, or you can take a bath instead of a shower.

If you get a cast protector, there are two kinds, an expensive kind (about $35) which works, and a cheap kind (about $5) which doesn't work.  Spring for the expensive one if you go this route.  Any good pharmacy should have these things.

You can take baths instead of showers, and just keep your foot out of the tub.  The best way to do this is to go into a dry tub and fill it up while you're already in it.  Play with the sail boat, and when you're done, drain the water while you're still inside.  Keep a dry towel nearby, and after all the water is out, put the towel in the tub, and use that to stand up to get out.

I realize we don't really feel all that squeaky clean after a bath compared to a shower, especially while all that dirty bath water is draining out while we're sitting in it.  But it is a much safer way to keep your foot dry.

One last thought:  if the reason you must keep your foot dry is because it's in a cast of some sort, it's not the end of the world if you were to get it slightly wet.  It'll just be a mess.  But if the reason to keep your foot dry is related to surgery or an open wound, it's imperative to keep it dry.  If you get it wet, you seriously risk infection.

Get checked !: Your pain may be simply due to low back muscle strain. But your mention of pain in the inner thighs and saddle region suggests a more serious condition called cauda equina syndrome. Not knowing your history, I can't give more detailed information personalized to you, but I strongly recommend you report to your doctor as soon as possible, and go to emergency immediately if your symptoms worsen.

Cauda equnina: Usually is not is usually not associated with back pain.  Numbness in the Saddle area as well as urinary retention or bowel incontinence may be seen.

NO: There is no connection. The Saddle deformity is an exostosis (bony outgrowth) of the FOOT bones. The ankle is not involved!

Irritation?: Admittedly, it's a bit hard to figure out by that description.  Could be irritation.  Could be from a scratch.  Could be folliculitis.  Could be bruises unrelated to the bags but perhaps a few days old.

i had unprovoked saddle pe 2 yrs ago &on warfarin 4 life inr target range 2.5-3.5 my last inr was 5.2 i hav area of pain in left thigh cud this be dvt?

Need to see doctor: With an INR of 5.2 you are more likely to have bleeding in the tissue, hematoma, rather than dvt. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.

Tough to say: Most likely, it is what doctors call "post inflammatory hypopigmentation."   sometimes, after a mild skin irritation the pigment does not come back as dark for a few months.  It eventually returns to normal.  Rarer things include vitaligo and leporesy.
