i've been on ritalin (methylphenidate) for a year, but i'm now suffering from frequent chest pains. should i stop taking ritalin (methylphenidate)?

Yes: The development of any chest pain requires proper evaluation by a physician. While it may  be related to a minor non -serious issue, Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a known cardiac stimulant. It can provoke extra heart beats , elevate blood pressure and in some instances  even provoke a heart attack.

You are taking HOW: Much ritalin (methylphenidate)?  Holy moley.  I do lots of high/ off label dosing of psychiatric drugs but i  am surprised by your dose. Medical causes need to be ruled out before anyone can begin to suggest that this is due to anxiety. Please talk with your provider about considering an approach other then ritalin (methylphenidate).

got heart palps. since last thurs. normal ekg and chest x-ray. dr told me to keep taking ritalin (methylphenidate). i'm afraid of taking meds with the palps. what 2 do?

Family practice : I can't treat your palpitations but Ritalin (methylphenidate) may be the cause. If it continues see your dr again to see if its safe to stop for awhile or adjust the dose. Get an echocardiogram and holer monitor to determine if the palpitations are significant.

Maybe, maybe not: Your doctor obviously knows the specifics of your health better than i do. For example, how much, in his/her judgement you need the ritalin (methylphenidate)? And wherther an alternative could be used?  But you're right to question the use of a drug that is known to exacerbate arrhythmias.
