: There are several causes of enlarged parotid glands ranging from obstructed salivary ducts from stone formation to autoimmune disease to infection to tumors. It seems you are being treated for an infection possibly from an obstructed duct. If you have dry mouth this might be also from an immune disorder. I suggest you followup an ENT doctor if your swelling does not subside to baseline soon.

See a doctor: If this has lasted for 3 years (as i understand, ) you should definitely be evaluated by a physician. With these symptoms, i would have recommended evaluation after 2-3 weeks.

Please see someone asap--doesn't matter what kind of doctor to start--just do it now.

Viral illness: sounds like an upper resp infection
Mononucleosis is a possibility
would consult with ur doctor and/or some walk-in clinic for a quick monospot test;
otherwise, rest, hydrate, take vitamins and assure good night sleep;
if these symptoms protract beyond 1-2 weeks, I would consider further blood work and possibly imaging of glands to rule out other, more sinister causes;

Parotid tumor: If this is in front of your ear.. It could be a tumor of the parotid gland. See your local ent.

i've had sore glands, jaw pain, and ear pain for almost 2 weeks. dr diagnosed as sinus/middle ear infection but z pack didn't help. what should i do?

Accepted Answer

Try again: A middle ear infection should include decreased hearing.  Pus in the nose running over the opening to the eustachian tube could cause  ear pain.  If it's mainly jaw pain it may be TMJ and not infection at all.  See an ENT and get a good nasal exam.  You may want to call your doctor first and see if he wants to try a second antibiotic.  A z pak could miss some important bacteria.
