Insect bites can also be the cause of a rash on the skin.  Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

Sunburn: Sunburn can give those dark spots on skin exoosed to sunlight.  Use sunscreen and avoid long hours exposure to sun.

I would see your dermatologist and also recommend you always wear sunscreen. Other considerations include fungal infections can turn dark with sun, but with correct topicals they will clear,

Hydroquinone: There are a variety of over the counter products that contain a bleaching agent called hydroquinone.  My favorite is one called ambi that is usually around $10-15.  Apply it 1-2 times daily for 2 months.  If that does not lighten the spots up, you should stop using it and see a dermatologist for other options.
