Lymph node: The lymphatic system as as a filtering system for infections, trapping pathogens to keep them from spreading.Cervical lymph nodes filter the entire he'd/upper neck area, so an URI, sinus infection, or enlarged tonsils/adenoids, can trigger node enlargement. So can decayed tweet, gum disease, or one of the many transient oral infections. Pro baby would be wise to have son's Dentist check.

Neck masses: Other than lymph nodes in neck are commonly thyroid nodules, branchial cleft cysts, lipomas.  If you can feel these masses in your neck, have your doctor order a ct or mri.  Ultrasound is particularly good at telling whether a mass is solid or cystic, not hard or soft.

Very possibly...: but I think you should get an expert opinion.  I would advise you have your physician examine them and confirm your assessment that these lymph nodes are benign.  Then you can agree together on whether it is safe for you to self-monitor them, or if she/he wants you to return for a recheck just to make sure all remains stable/benign. Good wishes:)
