It's possible: With increased abdominal pressure through exertion associated  with shoveling. Take antacid and/or ppi- omeprazole. Take care!

Difficulty: with swallowing in the presence of GERD is an indication for EGD with without video swallow .Older doctors may suggest a barium studies before EGD

GERD: YOU need to modify your diet like not eating fatty or spicy foods.  Dont eat large meals, dont eat late at night.  Dont lay down for 2 hours after eating.  If you smoke, quit!  You may need prescription strength medicine long term and have an Upper endoscopy to rule out H.Pylori infections and other conditions like Barretts esophagus.  Follow up with your PCP for a referral to a gastroenterologist

OTC meds: I would try some Prilosec (omeprazole) OTC twice a day for 1 week.  I would also, in the meantime, set up an appointment with your Family Doctor, especially if you have never had reflux before.  If you have risk factors for heart disease and the burning pain increases with exertion (not just eating) or if you have shortness of breath associated then you need to be seen today.

really red throat for 5 months doc seen pics and thinks pharyngitis but im worrying cause wont go away itsalways there so worrying about cancer he said couod be reflux but i take pentoprazole and feel my reflux is under control and ideas or tips?

: With red throat lasting this long, one should indeed have it appropriately investigated by both ENT and Gastroenterologist. The PCP should of course straddle over all. Better to stop worrying and get going about appropriate diagnosis and management/treatment.

Yes: it is usually controllable with meds (such as omeprazole, ranitidine, etc).
it may go away with time, particularly if you lose weight, and follow diet recommendations

Lifestyle changes: Reflux is common & often aggravated by what we eat or do in life.The caffeine in our coffee or nicotine in smokes can increase the reflux. Filling the stomach before bedtime or certain foods can aggravate the process. Various meds can reduce the pain but the beat way to avoid reflux is to  identify what you do that sets it off. Learn, change, avoid or treat.

Change your eating: If you smoke stop. Limit caffeen to 24 oz a day. Avoid acidic liquids, food, and aspartamine. Elivate the head of your bed. Avoid carbinated beverages. You can try a histamine blocker such as zantac (ranitidine) otc 150mg bid or Prilosec 20mg daily. If your symptoms last more than 2 weeks see your doctor.

Depends: Acid reflux tends to be a chronic recurrent problem. Each persons treatment varies on the frequency and severity of their symptoms. I do warn my patients to know the symptoms may not go away, or if they do that the symptoms may come back.

Depends: When the cause is gone, so will the symptoms be gone.  Medications, illnesses, posture, obesity and diet, will need to be addressed.  Massage for any chest wall pain can help reflux.  Ask yourself when it began, and seek help to overcome the problems involved.  Long term symptom control with medications may have adverse side effects on your bones so be careful.
