Probably sun: The most likely explanation is sun/UV light exposure to normal small salivary glands in the lips causing a small amount of inflammation. Because it is painless It is much less likely to be a cold sore due to the herpes virus.  I believe it should resolve on its own. Keep your lips moisturized with use of an OTC lip balm. If it persists or more develop, consider consultation with a Dermatologist.

Lip patches: Lips heal themselves very quickly.  Keep the area clean with soap and water and allow to dry, or apply petroleum jelly and things should resolve over a few days to a week.

Yes..: When an ulcer is in the process of healing, inflammatory cells congregate along with small blood vessels and they can cause a persistent redness.  It may take some time to fade...months to a year or more. Vigorously protect from the sun...this area can burn easily.

Chronic trauma: This is likely due to the chronic overbite. The lips are traumatized and are trying to repair themselves, but they are traumatized over and over again.

Need more info: Is this patch inside of your mouth? How long has it been present? How large is it.  Is it draining.
