Not uncommon: As long as it is not severe, do be patient. If severe, very watery with pain, a change of medications may be needed. A bland cereal, apple sauce type diet helps. Avoid juices. Please be aware of incidental stomach flu type infections too.

Depends ...: It depends on how bothersome the diarrhea was/is and what is being treated.  Most bacterial infections can be treated with alternative antibiotics, though diarrhea is a common issue with all antibiotics.  But if you find the diarrhea very bothersome, then it would be reasonable to utilize an alternative.

Common: Antibiotics are notorious for leading to diarrhea. Which one are you on?  C. Diff infection can also result for antibiotic utilization and can be checked easily by giving a stool sample.

See your PCP: Diarrhea for a month is not normal and can be due to a number of treatable conditions the most common of which are lactose or gluten sensitivity. See your PCP (Primary Care Provider) for help.
Yes antibiotics ..in fact MOST antibiotics can produce loose stools or diarrhea.

Try probiotics: I'm not sure what you had taken antibiotics for but try Align / Culturelle or generic version of these to help with antibiotic-associated diarrhea. If your diarrhea persists or you have fever/abdominal pain, contact your doctor asap! Otherwise, using imodium (loperamide) sparingly should be ok. Hope you feel better soon!

Depends: Sometimes the gut flora takes some time to get back on track.  Probiotic pills or foods such as yogurt can help restore the flora.  If you have watery diarrhea multiple times a day, see your doctor because you could have an infection as a result of the antibiotics.

Treatment Failure: I would be very interested to know what the doctor is treating. I know of no common reason to give someone an antibiotic for diarrhea.  But in any case, it did not work. Persistent diarrhea needs to be tested for bugs, parasites, and bacteria and THE CORRECT diagnosis made before any treatment can be recommended.

Dangerous C. diff: Yes, unfortunately it is possible to have colitis without diarrhea and if you think you have this, you need to be checked today by a doctor. Sometimes a patient may take an antidiarrheal or the illness itself causes a temporary 'bowel paralysis' so this needs to be evaluated for. A host of screening tests can help the doc make this diagnosis - so I suggest calling your primary MD and go to an E.R.

should i have a tooth extracted when i have stomach and diarrhea issues from antibiotics?

Yes....If: Yes, you can have the tooth extracted if you are sure the stomach issues are from the antibiotic and not from a virus or bacterial infection.  Unfortunatly there is really no way to know this.   Contact your doctor and inform them of your stomach issues.  They may tell you to stop taking the medication or change your antibiotic in hopes to resolve the issue.
