i keep getting these sudden hot and cold patches on my head. they come on randomly and make a patch of my head feel suddenly hot and burning to freezing cold and fluctuate between them both until the sensation wears off. should i be worried?

Nerve dysfunction: hot or cold sensations are controlled by nerves in the skin. A variety of underlying issues can cause this sensation. Alcohol related neuropathy, diabetes, hormonal changes, nerve damage, and MS. It might be wise to see a DR for a full workup. Keep a diary of when it happens and anything that was going on at that time: Diet, exercise, period, sleep, anxiety, alcohol/drug consumption, etc.

sometimes i get a random patch of burning skin anywhere on my body. it doesn't last long, no redness. i'm very worried as to what the cause could be.

Random patch of burn: Would follow up with neurologist could be elevated sugar ,thyroid disease , B12 ( usually is in legs first), or autoimmune versus MS. follow up with neurologist.

Get evaluated: It would be best to first try to determine the cause rather than treating which would traditionally be initially approached with oral antihistamines and topical steroids.

Depends: Upon when and how frequently you get the pain and burning. There are many possibilities. Could be irritation, infection, etc. Check w/your doctor at your next visit.

Contact dermatitis?: Itchy skin with dry patches could be due to contact irritation from a body care product. Try going fragrance free: unscented detergent, no fabric softener, unscented soaps and deodorants. The irritation might just be on your breasts because of the snug fit of your bra, allowing the offending product to be in closer contact with your skin. Try otc hydrocortisone for 3 days.  If no better, see doc

Pain: Off to your primary doctor as soon as you can get in. If there is a long delay please go to the nearest Emergency facility for care.

See your MD: 45 year old lady with history of Hepatitis C, obesity presenting with prickly, tingling skin. You should see your MD. Depending upon the location of your symptoms there can be many different causes and more information is needed about your medical history, all medications, allergies, social history, and review of your current symptoms. Above hip bone?: This is not a location that we can depend on your anatomic localization.  However, most burning sensations anywhere are caused by pinched nerves; so be sure you are not wearing something or doing anything that might put pressure on the area.  Good luck to you!

Rash: Stop using the cream, apply a moisturizer and a hypoallergenic sunscreen.
