Similar ingredients: The are several inhalers with similar medications, used for the same lung conditions that Advair is used for. For example, there is Symbicort, and there is Qvar plus salmeterol. One's doctor can help decide whether a change would be helpful or not. Patients should not change medications without talking to their prescribing doctors.

To prevent thrush, be sure to rinse and spit after you use your steroid inhaler, every single time. See your doctor so the losenges can be prescribed.

SIde effects: Any medication carries the risk of side-effects, both short and long-term in nature.  Overall this is a very safe medication but the side effects should be weighed against all benefits.  Best to wash out mouth after use and make sure you use proper technique.

Mgt: QVAR is typically used one to two times per day, morning and in the evening. Sometimes wheezing becomes worse at night, so a dose at night is advised.

It depends: Decreasing your controller medication depends on whether you have well controlled asthma for three months or more.
If you take the asthma control test which can be found online, it will help your physician determine the next step. Step down therapy is a term often used when a patient can decrease their use of asthma medication.
There can be lung inflammation even when symptoms are absent.

Maintenance med: Qvar is meant to be used daily to control asthma symptoms, and is not a rescue inhaler. Suggest you talk to your doctor before attempting to discontinue it.
