Need to examine: You may take over the counter pain medication such as acetaminophen. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.

No. You are probably: seeing the pulsations of your carotid artery, the main artery leading to the brain.  It can be easily felt and may also be seen because, for a large artery, it's relatively close to the surface.  I would worry if you couldn't find a carotid pulse.  Dr. Anne

Yes: Drop it.  There is a lot of asymmetry and variability in the right and left sides of the body.  It is harmless.

Should be tested: Apulsating soft tissue in the neck could be from the carotid artery itself, like carotid body tumor, or from tissue infront of the artery very close.

Possibly: If you are severely out of shape or have high blood pressure, it would be normal. Build up slowly. If you feel like you are going to pass out when it happens, see your doctor.

If you can only see it lying flat down, it's probably normal.
