Psoriasis: Researchers believe that for a person to develop psoriasis, the individual must have a combination of the genes that cause psoriasis and be exposed to specific external factors known as triggers.  The triggers include: stress, injury to the skin, medications, and infection. Some patients clam allergies, diet and weather trigger psoriasis.

i had bad eczema as a kid its been gone for years now but all of of sudden i have psoriasis now its not severe its mild but should i still be worried? should i go get tested for other things ? and if so what?

Children yes wife no: To your children, yes. There is a strong genetic component to psoriasis, though it is thought to be triggered by various factors, meaning it is not 100% certain that your children will have it. 

To your wife, no. It is not a contagious disease.

But there are certain periods in a person’s life when it’s more common to see the first signs of psoriasis: between 15 and 30 years of age and between 50 and 60 years of age. About 75% of people with psoriasis get their first psoriasis symptom before they become 40 years old.

Small risk: There is a genetic component to psoriasis so there is a 50% chance a child will inherit the predisposition. However, even if that happens, the risk of developing psoriasis is relatively small. One large study put the risk at about 12% if a parent has the disease but I am not sure that the exact risk has really been definitively determined.

Depends: There are several forms of this disorder. There a variety of treatments based on the form. Many of those advertised heavily in the media are not approved for young children.  Any treatment decisions should be made &amp; monitored by the kids physicians.

Biologics: Biologic drugs, or "biologics, " are a relatively new class of treatment for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis treatments. They are given by injection or intravenous (IV) infusion. Biologics include: enbrel, humira, stelara, (ustekinumab) Remicade and others. Biologics are more effective at treating psoriasis than soriatane.

Shield it: If the nipple/areola/skin condition causes discomfort while breast feeding, employ a breast shield.
