Yes!: There are a number of good tests available that you can use to check if you are indeed pregnant. Like all tests they are not perfect but try them. Be more careful in the future so you don't have to go through this.

Progestins for b.c.: Any kind of low dose oral contraceptive will work as "emergency contraception", but this method is not certain to prevent pregnancy. If your period is late, obtain a serum HCG to make certain you are not pregnant.

i have osteopenia plus migraine with aura and need contraception. i can't take the combined pill (migraine) and know i should avoid depo provera due to bone density issues. but is the progesterone only pill safe for osteopenia if taken long term? iud?

: The "progesterone only" form of oral birth control, or via "depo-progesterone shots every three months" will not significantly add to your osteopenia.  This type of birth control may lead to very irregular ovulation and longer intervals between menstrual events, and is not "100%" protective of pregnancy.

Your doc: Should ahve already discussed that with you. You may not have any but possible side effects can be break through bleeding, wt gain,  no periods, blood clots ht attack, stroke, the same side effects that you could ahve taking any pill. Obviously some side effects are much less common than others nad many people who take them have no side effects.

Same: There are progestin only pills, shots, implants, and IUD's.  The side effect profiles for each are similar because the mechanism of action and the effect of each drug on the body is the same.

The number one side effect is irregular and unpredictable bleeding.  Number two is weight gain due to the appetite stimulation of progestins - if you eat more you gain weight.

Breast feeding: Some women are sensitive to progestin and can cause one's milk to dry up while breatfeeding.
