No immediate effects: Toxic effects from doing it just once are rare with this drug and others like it, but effects like endometriosis, irregular periods, and mood swings have been seen in people that take high doses consistently. In other words, please take your *prescribed* dose, not more!

on aygestin (norethindrone) 4 for 4ds 3x3 than 2.have bipolar but take meds. today i felt so overwhelmed w/emotion i was overcome w/tears! is this bad side effect?

Recommend followup.: Aygestin (norethindrone) can cause depression and mood swings in some people when it's prescribed. Given your history of bipolar, i'd recommend seeing your prescriber immediately.

Possible bleeding: Most birth controll pills contain both estrogen and Progesterone which is how the pills help establish a balance and thus, facilitate the regulation of menstruation. Micronor (norethindrone) only contains progsterone, and is used for patients who may have contraindications to estrogen or for breastfeeding patients (estrogen drys up milk production). Therefore, expect some spotting to irregular bleeding.

Some answers: Androgenic activity wise from high to low: levonorgestrel, norethindrone, etonogestrel.  Overall the health/safety risks are very similar.  There is some small suggestion that 3rd generation progestins, like etonogestrel, have increased risk of thromboembolic disease like DVTs.  Otherwise the androgenic effects are related to oily skin, acne, weight gain, glucose metabolism issues.

Maybe, maybe not: Normally, women don't take 5 pregnancy tests in 2 weeks (once a week works better, because in early pregnancy, it takes a few more days after a negative test for the HCG level to get high enough to show up on a urine pregnancy test). The pills are hormone pills, and can cause nausea or menstrual changes even without pregnancy, too. One should call the prescribing doctor for the next step.
