More specifics: The copper IUD does not have any effect on fertility.  If you are pregnant and have the copper IUD in place, you need to see your doctor immediately.

Wrong: Paragard IUDs do not cause + pregnancy tests, so if somebody does have a positive pregnancy test with a Paragard IUD in place, this should be evaluated further to determine if the pregnancy is in the uterus or outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy)

Same as no IUD: If a woman gets pregnant with an iud in place her symptoms are the same - missed period, nausea, tiredness. She has a higher chance of a miscarriage. However chance of pregnancy with an iud is low, about 1 in 100 per year or less.

Impossible : That is impossible to say.  Have you had a sono to see if the IUD is still in place?  Use alternate birth control method until you know for sure.

Yes: You should go see your doctor and make sure you're not pregnant, and you should call your doctor now and get some realtime advice. Weird bleeding with the possibility of pregnancy is nothing to mess around with.

i am 55. dr. tried to remove my iud (pregnancy is no longer a risk), but it is embedded. any risk in leaving it in forever? it doesn't bother me.

See MD: See your GYN MD for examination and tx options. You may not be able to evaluate the risks by your own feedback of pain or sensation. Sometimes adverse things can be happening without your knowledge. I would certainly not advise leaving a foreign body in place without a very good reason. Make the appointment. Good Luck.

Neg test = not preg: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

my iud is still in and should have been removed about 6 months ago do i have a higher chance of pregnancy now? what can happen if i keep it in longer?

Maybe higher: IUD's will still protect from pregnancy past the time they are recommended for removal.  However, after the recommended removal date, the effectiveness of the IUD may become less, as the copper or progesterone diminishes.  An IUD is still quite effective for birth control without the copper or progesterone, but not quite as effective as with it.

hello, i've had a iud for two and half years and suddenly been experiencing pregnancy symptoms that i've had in my prior pregnancy. i've bought two test and they both have come out invalid. is that normal?

Do over: Usually IUDs are quite effective but like everything in life sometimes they fail. I am not sure just what "invalid" means but the most accurate test for pregnancy is the blood test for beta chain HCG and it is + 5 days after implantation of the fertilized egg. Also, your IUD may have slipped and not be where it is supposed to be. Speak to your doc.
