i finished a course of augmentin yesterday for an ear infection (swollen preauricular node, swollen canal, burning ear), but my ear still feels clogged. node seems smaller than a week ago but still present. should i contact dr?

: The owner of many symptoms deserves a thorough history and physical.  If there is any issue of difficulty breathing or disorientation is worse, consider seeking urgent or emergent care, but the best individual would be one's primary care physician who will follow the patient over time.

Stop worrying: You're probably feeling a node with some scar tissue. Almost everybody has one or more such nodes somewhere.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Swollen lymph node: Lymph nodes are there to collect and eliminate infections from the body.  Swollen lymph nodes usually mean they are doing their job.  A nearby infection is the usual cause.  If growing or interfering with swallowing, see your doctor right away.

: Unlikely. You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!
