my 3 yo is potty training. on occasion when urine dries on white potty seat 1 or 2 dots may look a little red. never red in the toilet. took otc uti test that was negative. is it just rxn btwn plastic and urine?

Probably not: The dark red/purplish stains on the toilet seat may be from small degree of hematuria or crystals in the urine or the source of the stains may be outside the urinary system, like skin or rectal region.
Your child should therefore be examined by the doctor for a better assessment.

Depends on the child: Most kids get interested in the potty around 18 mo. & train by 2 yrs. If their parents start taking them along every time the parents use the toilet. Put the kiddy potty on the bathroom floor so that your child can sit on it while you use the regular one. Start your child with clothes on;after a few days, go to just diaper, then, when your child's ready, to bare-bottom. Lots of praise & rewards help!

Control realization: Smart children sometimes come to realize that for first time in their lives they can actually control something and attempts to forcibly train can only have negative consequences. Let child sit on potty if they wish, but don't tell them to push it out. This can result in them contracting pelvic floor muscles coincident with abdominal wall muscles & can lead to bladder dysfunction.

Toilet Training: According to the NIH, your baby will probably be ready closer to 18 months. A baby will let you know when he or she is ready by signaling to you that their diaper needs changing. Too early?: Parents are highly motivated to toilet train their children ( less mess, less expense). Unfortunately, toddlers frequently are not ready as soon as the parents would like. Boys in particular are later to be ready for this training. I do not think that your son is ready for toilet training developmentally, and would recommend waiting until he is older.

Not likely: Autism diagnosis encompasses delays in language develpment, motor development and social-emotional development.  Although very little information is given, struggling with toilet training is not likely to be diagnostic of autism.  Your child might an underlying medical issue like constipation or is having oppositional defiant disorder.

Several things: First, the ability to be toilet trained depends on neurological maturation. Second, toilet training is a skill that is easily shaped through positive reinforcement.  Failures should be ignored and successes praised.  Putting too much emphasis on the toilet training and failures can increase the child's resistance.  Most children learn this skill easily if done in a relaxed manner.

Potty training: Wetting the bed is considered normal in children up to 6 years of she. As to the potty training try behavior modification i.E for each successful bm reward with a gold star. After five stars win a prize.

Adaptive/Self-Help: Delays require medical, neurological &amp; developmental assessment. Medical causes may require referral to a specialist. Behavioral causes from parents' accidentally having reinforced toileting refusal may require referral to a child psychologist &amp; a pediatric GI to manage stool-withholding &amp; constipation wth techniques like those in comments, if health is fine &amp; development is otherwise typical.

Depends: This depends on your child but generally you can start at 2-3 years of age.  Some children will not be willing to start this early and you do not want to force the issue.
