Clear connection: There is a connection between allergies and Eustachian tube dysfunction (your ear drums popping) , your allergies and nasal congestion (swelling of the lining of the nose); post-nasal drip can be associated with both nasal allergy and gastric reflux. See an allergist/immunologist for proper care.

Any respiratory alle: Rgy.  Popping ears means eustachian tube dysfunction. That's the tube that connects the middle ear to the back of the nose. This tube opens to allow air pressure to equalize on both sides of the eardrum so that we can hear & closes when we swallow or talk so that we don't go deaf. Since milk allergy can cause nasal congestion it can also effect eustachian tube function & cause ear popping.

Not likely: Food allergy reactions typically cause rash, hives, swelling, diarrhea and other GI symptoms.  Ear popping/crackling is suggestive of eustachian tube dysfunction that is more commonly seen in environmental allergies leading to nasal congestion.

Yes: Try to figure out what foods or ingredients that may be causing this and either remove them from your diet or simply taking a zyrtec or Claritin (loratadine) may help out.

Not per se but: You will likely need to get any nasal congestion under control .  Consider trying a nasal steroid for a week or so and see if this helps.  If not, consider an allergy consult. Frequent eustachean tube obstruction can lead to permanent damages. If you have water damage at your residence and have not fixed the problem yet, you may need to move out until the problem is fixed.

Sinusitis: You may have a sinus infection, you need to see your doctor to treat it, if you have allergies they need to be controlled to stop these recurrent sinus infections. See an allergist and get tested and determine your triggers.

Popping: If no ear canal problems. A common cause for popping in the ears is TMJ problems. Some people will get a pop even thought no significant TMJ problems.

Eustachian tube: Dysfunction usually due to infections or allergies  it may take days to a week or more to resolve  if pain fever or worsening symptoms see an ent.

deep inside one of my ears it feels like fluid and pressure are there.  popping ears does not help at all.  not pain; just a fluid feeling, occasional pulses, but very deep.  what does this sound like, and when should it warrant a trip to the doctor?

Answer: There is most likely fluid and mucous inside your Eustachian tube causing the blockage. If popping the ear does not help, try using a decongestant nasal spray such as Afrin or Neosynephrime in the nostril on the side of the blockage, drinking clear liquids, and avoiding dairy products. There is no hard and fast rule about this, but I will usually prescribe antibiotics after a week if unimproved.
