: HPT's are accurate about a week after a missed period. The positive test seven days post encounter was most likely a false positive. Has your friend missed her period? If so, have her see her OBGYN since the dates you posted add up to 28 days after intercourse.

i had unprotected sex on 5/13/17 and took  plan b the next day. i had a positive pregnancy test on 5/18/17. that means i was already pregnant? i had an ultrasound on 6/5/17 that said i was 7 weeks/1 day. is that accurate and i got pregnant in april?

Ultrasound PLUS: blood testing ( HCG, qualitative and quantitative ) should confirm the pregnancy. It seems that you may have already been pregnant, which in turn means that you and your partner were not using BC or condoms? The ultrasound and HCG blood levels will help determine exactly when you became pregnant.

Conception: You are going to need a dating ultrasound to tell when you conceived. But, Plan B only works 50% of the time. That is why regular birth control is much more effective at preventing pregnancy. It would be very unlikely for any test to be able to pick up pregnancy on 7/10 from sex on 7/3. Can retest in 1 week: Can retest in one week to be sure. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. An Ob-Gyn doctor can evaluate any persistent or worrisome symptoms. Using Plan B can alter the menstrual period timing for that cycle and sometimes the next cycle.

Plan B: No. Plan b will not cause a postive pregnancy test. If positive its because most likely you are pregnant and the Plan B did not work or you took it more than the recommended 3-5 days after an unprotected sexual encounter.  See your obgyn for more testing and ultrasound.

Yes but unlikely: There are very rare tumors that produce the same hormone as found in pregnancy.
