what happens to the organs when so much weight is lost? where do the go, do they shrink? looking at pictures for a class i noticed the stomachs were so sunk in and was wondering where to the organs go? do they shift or shrink?

Some : Some organs with a large fatty content like the liver may shrink, however most stay about the same.  The sunken appearance may be because of a reduction in the intra-abdominal fat which will reduce the overall intra-abdominal volume.

Many possibilities: Causes of upper abdominal pain can include but are not limited to: gallstones, hepatitis, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammation of the bile duct or gallbladder, obstructed intestines,  and problems of the chest such as angina, heart attack, pericarditis, pneumonia and pleurisy.

Usually heartburn: The backwash of stomach liquids up the swallowing tube is the most common issue related to pain in this area. There are others. The process is aggravated by some foods, caffeine, acidic drinks and  laying down after eating. Your pcp could conform this issue with a history & exam & look for other possibilities.

It causes nausea, feeling of fullness with small meals, bloating and in severe cases vomiting  of undigested food and reflux of the stomach content into the esophagus and mouth.

Upper abdominal pain: Anatomically, upper abdomen includes: spleen, pancreas, stomach, descending duodenum, splenic ; hepatic flexures of the colon, associated vessels, liver, gallbladder, biliary tree. Don't forget the diaphragm, heart, ; lower chest/lungs are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, ; skin can all contribute as well to localizing pain.
