Benefits: Alcoholism is the 3rd leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. and has a multitude of effects on many organs of the body.  Chiefly, alcoholism causes liver damage, disruptions in glucose metabolism and many changes in the brain. i suffer from chronic gerd. i've drank heavy in the past. i'm 40 and a recent scope showed no barrett's, etc. if i quit drinking will there be a benefit in cancer risk reduction. if i had a drink a day for heart health benefit is that advise able?

Withou: Barrett's the Cancer risk is much lower and I do NOT know of any connection with drinking moderately!!! Heavy drinking is not necessarily a risk factor for CA of your esophagus but it sure will kill yah some other way!

In moderation there : Can be benefits. Flavonoids can help to v risk for strokes, heart attacks, & hypertension. Hdl, (good cholesterol) can ^ and LDL (bad cholesterol)  can v. However, if not in moderation, alcohol use can be very destructive.

Alcohol: That depends on how much you drink. If you take in a considerable # of calories from alcohol it will make a considerable difference. Your body will appreciate it if you take in healthy calories in exchange for the alcohol.

Hydration/nutrition: This is nothing more than a chicken soup.  We all know that this cures what ails us!  i would not venture any special benefit other than a good way to get fluids, salt, water and nutrition into one self whether healthy or sick.  If you like it, no reason not to enjoy.  If don't like, go on strike!

Alcohol withdrawal: May get shakes, high blood pressure, seizures, what looks like dementia.

Go for it!: There are no studies about certain food or drinks. Successful treatment will be based on how addicted you are. For example if you need your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking you may need a combination of nicotine replacement (patch, lozenge, or gum) and medication. Medication could be something like Chantix or bupropion. See your doc.

Get to a: detox facility  and let them manage your quitting, in case you have withdrawal.
