will phentermine and birth control  worsen bipolar disorder?

Phentermine could: I would avoid Phentermine in patients with bipolar d/o as i think it could make a person's moods unstable, increase the risk of mania and psychosis. I also see folks lose weight on various diets and/or appetite suppressants only to gain the weight back when they stop the diet or the pills. I know weight loss is hard, but changing one's lifestyle with a healthy diet and regular exercise is best.

i wanted to know is it safe to take phentermine with birth control and does it decrease the effectiveness of the birth control when using phentermine?

It is safe: If your doctor has determined that Phentermine is safe for you then taking it along with your birth control should have no effect.  Phentermine does not decrease the pill's effectiveness.

can i take phentermine and thyroid medication at the same time? i am also taking sprintec birth control.

Accepted Answer

Yes, but: You need to take the thyroid medication if your thyroid level is abnormal. The Phentermine will only affect it if your dose of either is excessive. The phentermine, however, only works for as long as you take it - then you'll begin to gain the weight back unless you've learned how to eat properly - if you have, you don't need the Phentermine in the first place.

im on loestrin fe. my dr prescribed phentermine to me for some weight loss. i am experiencing break through bleeding. is my birth control ineffective?

Loestrin Fe works: The Loestrin Fe is still working in spite of the breakthrough bleeding as long as you are not taking the phentermine at the same time as the contraceptive. The healthiest way to lose weight is with diet modifications and exercise and not phentermine, because the weight loss on "speed"(phentermine) will return once you stop taking that pill.

No: Occasional spotting in between periods is usually nothing to worry about. If it becomes a pattern, happening with every cycle, etc, then you should discuss with your gynecologist.

Drug interactions : Reviewed medical database and was unable to find any evidence of significant drug interactions between formulations of cysteine and birth control pills.  Would recommend still to consult with prescribing physician as well.

NO: There are no known interactions between glutathione and any medications.

Not necessary: If you are concerned, use a back up method for contraception, such as a condom. If your diarrhea persists, see a Provider and check that out.
