Yes and no: In diabetics who need prp, the peripheral retina is starving for oxygen and not working.   That's why the patients who have it do not note a change in the side vision.  But yes, prp works by destroying sick retina so that there is enough nutrients for the surviving retina.

Retinal hemorrhage: Retinal hemorrhages can occur in any of its layers: causes:  diabetes, hypertension, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusion are most common.  Vision loss is a not a typical complain at first-depends on the cause.  There is no treatment recommended.  Referral to the patient`s primary care doctor is recommended to rule out systemic disease.  Retinal specialist or a good eye md to treat.

Yes: This is a well described cause of edema and bleeding of the retina when you climb higher than your acclimation.  The use of acetazolamide can help but a common associated condition is fluid in the lung which basically halts further climbing and brain fog with confusion and disorientation.

Red spots: Retinal hemorrhages can manifest in different shapes and sizes.  They can vary from focal dots to larger flame shaped patterns.  The pattern of hemorrhage can indicate the level of the retina involved and even suggest the cause (i.e., diabetic retinopathy).

Yes depends: Yes this is possible especially if the vitreous hemorrhage is caused from a vitreous detachement which is different from a retinal detachment. Patients with a vitreous hemorrhage from a vitreous detachment should be watched to ensure they do not develop retinal detachment.

Unlikely: Depends upon the severity of the fall and the location of the hemorrhage.  If there is severe head trauma then hemorrhages may be observed at the optic nerve.  Eyes are generally well protected and without direct eye trauma or an orbital fracture, eye damage is unlikely.  If the child is an infant, suspicion of non-accidental trauma could be entertained.  You need full documentation.

Not usually: I'm not going to say this could never happen, as it is a possibility in people who are prone to retinal tears/detachments like with Still's disease. But for a normal child this distance fall is extremely unlikely to do anything more than a big bump and bruise superficially, and possibly a tiny headache for a few hours.
