Pregnant?: Pregnancy must always be considered a possibility.  Purchase a home pregnancy test.  It becomes positive at about the time you'd be 1 week late.  If it's negative, repeat it in 1 week.

Could be normal: If your periods are irregular, it might be a sign of hormonal problems. There is also a chance this was an early miscarriage. It might also be normal: sometimes a period is just different. Talk with your gynecologist if you are concerned.

Needs evaluating: The blood can be from your urinary tract (urethra or bladder), the reproductive tract (vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus) or from the anus, colon, rectum. There are a multiple of causes of bleeding from any of these sites. I would recommend a visit to your physician for evaluation.

Leftover blood: A little bit of blood coming out after your period is not abnormal. That just reflects the last bit coming out. If you would like better cycle control consider one of the many birth control options. These can shorten and lighten your cycle.

Stopped BC pills: It is not unusual to have strange periods after stopping bc pills.  Periods should straighten out after a few months.  If not , see your doctor.

This can be common: It is not uncommon to have dark brown blood at the beginning of a period b/c this is usually old blood/tissue.  Once the period gets going and the uterine lining is shed, the blood will look brighter and have larger clots.  If this is a change in your period, then speak with your doctor as to the cause of this change. Sometimes periods are too heavy and cause anemia due to the excess blood loss.

period was extremely heavy.  i had tampon in but when i wiped it was all black clots.  most blood i have ever seen. should i be concerned?

In a way: As long as you feel fine, other than the heavy menstrual bleeding, you should be OK, but any change in your period, that you never experienced before, should be told to your Dr and GYN to get a routine evaluation, some possible testing, and to assure all is well moving forward.
