Menstruation: The main reason for light periods is change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives, perimenopause ; implantation bleeding in early pregnancy which rarely occurs.

Misse or late period: Very common at your age &amp; usually without cause. Can be cause by anxiety or possibly your new strenuous workouts. Lots of young women miss periods when they first leave home and go to school or start a new job. Don't worry.

Later period: Would get blood/urine HCG. The second period  may have been implantation  in September.  If all negative consider sonogram. Follow with MD/urgent care.

Pregnancy: The first and last thing we always have to think about is pregnancy.  Try a home pregnancy test.  If its negative, repeatit in a week and call your doctor.

If &gt;4 days late...: Pregnancy is the most common cause of a missed period. If not pregnant, other causes of a late or missed period include:  excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (especially birth control pills), hormonal disorders, etc…  A visit to one’s Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are recurring, or worrisome.

No: It is recommended all women of childbearing age supplement with folic acid to minimize the risk of neural tube defects. I advise the L-5-MTHF form of folate in case you are among the 1/3 of people who have genetic problems converting folic acid to folate. Folic acid does not cause late periods. If sexually active I advise a pregnancy test but there can be other reasons for a late period.
