Weight training. . .: To gain weight, one has to consume more calories than he is burning. Do this in a healthy way by avoiding junk or fast food. Keep a well balanced diet and make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need. Don't cut out exercise as it is very good for you. Weight lifting and other muscle building exercises can help increase one's body mass (muscles). Body-building "supplements" are not needed.

Wt/(ht) squared: There are bmi calculators on the web.  The formula is weight (in kilograms) divided by height (in meters) squared. One can use lbs for weight and inches for height but then you multiply the result by 703.  A bmi of 18.5 to 24.9 is normal, 25-29.9 is overweight, over 30 is obese.
