TKA: I'm not sure exactly what you mean. But a tka is a resurfacing procedure that removes irregular surfaces and corrects angular and rotatory deformities by using a modular, specifically measured and fit tibial, femoral, and patellar components. This helps regain normal knee biomechanics of flexion, extension, rotation, and roll.

Knee Replacement: 42 is young but not unheard of. If all other measures have been tried and your knee pain is effecting your quality of life and function to a degree that is not tolerable then knee replacement may be you last best option.

Great deal: Your question is somewhat vague.  Personally, I do minimally invasive surgery using custom, uncemented tka implants which is very important for the younger patients.  This includes over 250 knee replacements per year. At your age, make sure you see a surgeon with a great deal of experience.  Good luck.

Yes: I'm assuming you are referring to the low impact exercise machine.  A gazelle would be very good exercise, as would most other low impact machines such as an elliptical, stationary bike, etc.  Generally anything that isn't high impact is a safe option for exercise and sports participation after knee replacement.  You should avoid high impact activities such as running, jumping, etc.

Jump??: First of all, who told you that you can't?
Probably not a good idea to do that in early post-operative or rehabilitation period, but if the surgery goes well and there are no post-operative issues, there is no reason why you can't jump.  Of course prior to doing that you would have to build the strength back up in your quads and hamstrings.

Pain/disability: When to have a knee replacement has to be an individualized decision. Moderate to severe pain and/or loss of the ability to function to one's satisfaction are reasons to have a knee replacement. Failure to get relief with nonsurgical measures is also a reason. Severity of arthritis on an x-ray should not be the primary factor, as many with severe x-ray changes have little pain and good function.
