You need some strong pain meds including narcotics.
Try over the counter tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen in the meantime and take these meds with food.
Avoid drinking alcohol.

This is important you help him maintain hydration until he can get  fluids.

In theory, yes it can mask pain symptoms caused by other conditions, however it is variable between people. Because pain reception is oftentimes multi-modal, meaning that the sensation of pain is mediated by many different cellular mechanisms, some will experience a good amount of pain relief with just one injection but others will not. Highly variable: Each person is different. Much of the early stage of pancreas cancer has no pain. Later stage pancreas cancer can cause a severe boring pain from the mid upper abdomen into the upper back.
