have odd zit on face that suddenly appeared. painful; if i try to pop it, skin around sinks becomes dark, wont pop. only one. what is this?

ZIT: It may not be acne and even if it is you should NEVER pop it. It may be a cherry hemangioma. But since there is no picture, diagnosis based on your description is not possible. Consult your dermatologist and do not manipulate the lesion.

Acne=infection.: Acne is truly an infection within the pores of the skin, so any effective treatment for acne should initially include both a drying agent (i.e. benzoyl peroxide) and an antibiotic (which could be topical or oral).  In this area, remember that oils from your hair may also be in play so that may need to be addressed as well.

Hidradenits: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin disease characterized by clusters of abscesses, epidermoid cysts, sebaceous cysts, pilonidal cysts that most commonly affects apocrine sweat gland bearing areas, such as the underarms.  This is usually treated by excision of the infected area.  See your doctor.  Will persist for years if not treated.

Acne: Wash  w gentle cleanser 2x/day & use oil free products. No oily hair. Exfoliate occasionally. Try not to pop pimples. Avoid touching face (cradling chin in hands).  Shower after strenuous exercise. Consider otc products (salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide). If &gt; mild acne see dermatology.

: There is a small instrument that will pop out the whiteheads quickly.
 In addition , if you have a number of whiteheads, using Retin A cream or gel every night will make a quality improvement

Probably an achne: Acne at age 36 is unusual but can occur at any age. One needs to also check for white-heads which also looks like "puss filled zit" things. Proper hygine and healthy diet can also help with eliminating these unwanted problems.

Zit: This is exactly why we advised everyone not to do what you did. You likely pushed the infection deep in to tissue. I would advise that if becomes tender or red, see your doctor for antibiotic. If it does't resolve soon, may need to be extracted.

Benzoyl peroxide: Look for over the counter benzoyl peroxide cream-when applied to a pimple it will help it to dry up more quickly. You may be able to find it in skin concealer color, but if not, you can apply a small amount of foundation over the cream.

i have 2 bumps on the back of my lower head. came out of nowhere. they hurt a little when i press into them. i recently had a huge zit in that area.

Few things possible: They could be acne, ingrown hairs or even abscesses depending on their size. The best thing is a physical examination and evaluation by you doctor or even a dermatologist.
