Costochondritis: Costochondritis is inflammation of cartilage between the ribs and is associated with a viral illness, smoking, and other causes such as trauma to the area, physical activity straining the rib cage, arthritis and other causes. Try ice on area, ibruprofen/tylenol to relieve pain, avoid activity that makes it hurt. Chk with doctor for source of pain. Chest xray/physical therapy may help.

It could be: The doctors who ordered your test would have the best idea, since the considered most of the options. Would obviously also consider things in your upper belly on the left side, since your diaphragm, a dome shaped muscle under your lung, flattens during a deep breath, and pushes on the contents of your upper abdomen.

Doctor can evaluate: Several possible reasons in a young adult, but one's doctor may want to check for a collapsed lung (pneumothorax, due to air leaking from inside the lung through it's lining, out into the space between the lung and the ribs). The site of the leak has some damage, which may heal itself. The leaked air stays inside the rib cage and takes up space, preventing the lung from fully inflating.

Spine: Without a history of trauma, shoulder blade pain can be caused by poor posture, a bad disc in the spine, or an irritated nerve in the neck. See your doctor if this pain lasts greater than 2 weeks.
