This depends.....: This depends on the severity of the injury not just to the bone but also to the soft tissues and   associated joint.  After bone healing has occured you may still have some joint swelling and pain.   Return to full activity may take a number of months.

Depends on fracture: Typically non-unions are treated surgically. The hard bone is removed and a screw  or plate is applied across the fracture. Alternatively this could be treated with bone stimulation devices over 3 months along with non weightbearing

Nothing to worry: You already have successful surgery , reconfirm with your surgeon how much weight bearing is allowed , and wait for the  ' D '  day  for full activity , and get rid of all contraptions .

Very difficult: There would have to be a very shallow groove or a very forceful injury.

Fix it.: If you have a displaced medial malleolar fracture that has not healed (in part likely because it is displaced).  You might want to consider having fixed with the very real likelihood if returning to full activity by 8-12 weeks.  At 22, you are too young to not have it corrected and to have to live with any long term restrictions.

there is an accumulation of mass above and below my medial malleolus? and there is no result seen in my mri beside from tendonitis. what is that mass?

MRI: Should rule out a mass/cyst. It is possible you have swelling from tendonitis in the region of the tarsal tunnel.
