E.R. checks appendix: Lower right abdominal discomfort can be from many things. For pain there, appendicitis is always a concern (pain usually worsens over time, with fever coming on). If one is constipated for several days, stool can back up all the way to the right side, and cause discomfort or pain. Gallstones and kidney stones can also cause pain. The Emergency Room doctor can check now. Somebody else should drive.

Doctor can evaluate: Abdominal pain can be from many things. Stomach acid problems cause pain, as does pancreatitis or gallstones. Appendicitis is always a concern (pain is usually right lower abdomen, worsens over time, with fever coming on). If constipated for a while, stool could have backed up and cause pain. Gastrointestinal infections can cause pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. A doctor's exam may be needed.

Causes of recurrent abdominal discomfort as described may be identified by first addressing signs/symptoms so as to localize the organ involved: vaginal discharge or bleeding, alteration in periods, pregnancy risk? Fever, nausea, vomiting, altered stool pattern, blood with stool, tenderness, distension? Painful urination, blood in urine? Recent trauma, herniations?
